Did you know that a remarkable relationship exists between process of respiration in animals and the process of photosynthesis in plants? The molecule of chlorophyll (what makes plants green and soaks up the sun’s energy) has only one atom that makes it different from a molecule of hemoglobin (what makes blood red and carries oxygen)! After reading this I felt a deeper connection all the green life around me. That what is flowing through my veins is not so different from what is flowing through them.

I never saw a discontented tree. They grip the ground as though they liked it, and though fast rooted they travel about as far as we do. They go wandering forth in all directions with every wind, going and coming like ourselves, traveling with us around the sun two million miles a day, and through space heaven knows how fast and far! ~John Muir

I am a certified tree hugger! Besides being incredibly beautiful, too often humans fail to recognize how vital they are to our earth’s ecology and our very existence.

I had no idea of the close relationship chemically of hemoglobin and chlorophyll – that’s amazing. There is no end to the suprises that science is finding. Check out this link which describes some of the findings related to microorganisms being investigated at Yellowstone National Park. A lot of technical terms but stick with it and find some of the amazing discoveries that have occurred.

Brings to mind one of Einstein’s infamous quotes:
A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

I am going to echo Sandy and Rich this week…and add that just this morning my partner and best friend showed me a photograph from a large book on the oldest trees in Virginia. Near our home a woman bought a house that was “too small for her family” but she had to buy it because of the large tree in the front yard.
My home is surrounded by huge old trees and I love learning of just how connected we are through today’s post!
