Did you know that the conifer forests of the American Pacific Coast existed before the Swiss Alps or the Rocky Mountains formed?  I love those forests, the beauty and radiance of the trees and the quiet, peaceful feeling I get being with them. Knowing that they are older than mountains gives me a feeling beyond words! Has learning something about the earth ever made you love it more?

The largest living organism on the planet is a Giant Sequoia tree in a California Redwood forest.  Living in the nearby Sierra Nevada Mountains, the Bristlecone Pine are the oldest living beings on the planet.  They can live to be over 4,000 years old.
